Best Live Music Venues in Columbia, SC

Columbia's venues cover the full range, from small standing-room bars to a full-scale arena.

Colonial Life Arena

The biggest stage in town, with a capacity of around 18,000. This is where national touring acts come through, from arena rock to country to hip-hop. If a major tour is passing through the Southeast, odds are good it stops here.

Township Auditorium

A 3,000-seat venue that's been part of Columbia's music scene since the 1930s. The building was fully renovated in 2009, and the acoustics are excellent for its size. Township draws a mix of rock, country, R&B, and Americana acts. Recent lineups have included artists like Blackberry Smoke, Alison Krauss, and Vince Gill.

The Senate

Located in the Vista district, The Senate is Columbia's go-to for emerging and mid-level touring bands in a standing-room space that holds about 1,200 people. If you follow indie, alternative, or electronic music, this is probably where you'll end up most often.

New Brookland Tavern

Columbia's oldest continuously running music venue, now at 632 Harden Street in Five Points after moving from its longtime West Columbia location in 2023. New Brookland has a no-frills vibe and books local, regional, and national acts across genres.

Jam Room Music Festival, Columbia SC

One of the highlights of the Columbia music calendar is the Jam Room Music Festival, a free, all-ages event put on by the Jam Room Foundation. The festival has been running for over a decade, originally on Main Street, and most recently at Finlay Park. Two stages run simultaneously with a mix of local, regional, and national acts spanning indie, rock, country, blues, and more.
The festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. on a Saturday each fall, with food trucks, kids' programming, and easy access to the rest of downtown. It's also a bike-friendly event with free bike valet provided by Cola Town Bike Collective. Admission is free, though donations to the Jam Room Foundation are welcome and help keep it that way. Finlay Park's amphitheater and downtown location make it easy to grab dinner in the Vista before or after the show.

Bars, Restaurants & Patios with Live Music

You don't have to buy a concert ticket to hear live music in Columbia because there's plenty of bars and restaurants building it right into the experience.

Tin Roof

A Vista staple with live bands every Friday and Saturday night, plus a full menu of wings, burgers, and chicken tenders. The vibe leans toward country and cover bands.

Market on Main

A downtown restaurant with an outdoor stage for live music and patio seating on Main Street.  The chef was named the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association's Chef of the Year, so the food holds its own alongside the music.

Art Bar

An underground club open since 1992 with an artsy, eclectic atmosphere. Art Bar hosts live music, DJs, comedy nights, and karaoke throughout the week.

Steel Hands Brewing

A Cayce brewery with live music performed outside and craft beer on tap. Nashville Nights runs every Friday during the summer, showcasing Nashville singer-songwriters.

Chayz Lounge

A jazz lounge in West Columbia's River District with an upscale, grown-up atmosphere. Chayz brings in live jazz acts most weekends, and the curated wine list and handcrafted cocktails make it a fun evening out.

Foxfield Bar and Grille

A Rosewood neighborhood dive bar that regularly hosts live music on their backyard patio.

Foxfield Bar and Grille hosts a weekly open mic on Thursday nights that welcomes all skill levels. Art Bar hosts open mic comedy on Tuesday nights, and for jazz lovers, spots like Lula Drake Wine Bar and The Joint @ 1710 Main feature regular performances from local and regional jazz musicians.
